Anorexia

There can be a number of reasons why dogs lose their appetite. Before we start to worry why our dog has stop eating, dogs occasionally refuse food because they may dislike what we are giving them, or it can be a behavioural reason like a new home, a new animal member in the home or new person.

Anorexia is a term used to describe the condition where an animal loses his appetite and does not want to eat or is unable to eat. The loss of appetite can be one of the first indications of an illness, Diseases of the digestive system for one, liver, kidneys, the blood, nose and throat, mouth and many more organs in the body can be the course for lose of appetite. Another reason is that the dog has ingested a non-edible material such a paper, wood or even a toy. Another reason that a dog may stop eating is one that we don’t always think of, has there been a lost of another pet or the owner, a dog can grieve just like us for a lost companion.
