Medication can relieve signs of arthritis and restore and dog's enjoyment of life.

What is canine Arthritis?

Canine arthriits is similar to osteoarthritis in people in that one or more joints become inflamed and painful. When this happens the dogs are reluctant to move the painful joint/s which may then become stiff. Arthritis tend to worsen with time an it often goes unrecognised becaue of its gradual onset.

Dogs cannot tell us when they are till or in pain, but there are often changes in their behaviour that we can look out for. Signs may very with each dog and the severity of signs can change considerably for day to day. Signs you can look out for:

Difficulty getting up to a standing position in the morning, or after a long rest

Difficulty climbing stairs or getting into the car

Reduced enjoyment of walks or games

Becoming tired mor easily

Lameness

Subdued and unenthusiastic attitude

If your dog is showing any of these signs then you should ask your vet to examine your dog. Your vet will beable to tell you if your dog has arthritis or if tests need to be done and what care is best for your dog.
